Olives for Dinner: 2012 Favorites

I can’t believe that it’s been two whole years since I created Olives for Dinner. Since I started blogging in January 2011, I’ve challenged myself in ways that I never knew I could in the kitchen, formed countless friendships with other like-minded bloggers and developed the discipline to consistently crank out two posts a week. And I am so lucky to have such an amazing, patient and talented husband who happily photographs the results of my endeavors! To anyone who visits the blog, tries out a recipe or takes a moment to comment on a post … thank you!

Below are some of my favorite creations from the past year. These may not have been the most popular posts overall, but they are all ideas and concepts that I was the most excited to think up of, execute and style throughout 2012.

I do think this parade of photos is simply stunning – who could ever say that vegan food is boring if they saw it? Nobody! Happy New Year x

Erin, I just made the queso dip for the first time today and it smelled and tasted a bit bitter and almost chemically. Wondering if it is the tapioca – if you follow the thread on the ppk about the Artisan Vegan Cheese book some people have found a strange taste with recipes that use tapioca (which I haven't tried yet). What brand of tapioca powder do you use?
Thanks for all your wonderful vegan creativity! Here's hoping you keep it up for many years to come ๐Ÿ™‚

I can't imagine what may have gone wrong! I've heard from others that tapioca flour has a strange taste to them, but I don't detect that at all. I'm not sure what other ingredient could have imparted that flavor. I use tapioca flour from Chinatown, and keep it in my freezer – perhaps the taste goes bad if left at room temp? Just a guess!

Thank you for visiting the blog! : )

you know, later in the day I tasted my left over coconut milk and it had a hint of the same weird flavor I tasted in the cheese. Maybe bad milk? Anyway, it's such a simple recipe I'm determined to try again.

KateM, some coconut milks do have weird flavors in them, so that may have been it. I use Thai Kitchen brand, and it doesn't have any odd flavor at all. I updated the recipe with this info in case it's helpful. I hope it works out better the next time, enjoy!
