We’ve Been Changing and Rearranging!

Olives for Dinner - Newly Designed Site!

Well hello there!

If you are a regular reader of this blog, you’ll notice that there have been some changes around here.

Big Changes.

In January, I conducted a reader feedback survey and gained some great insight on how the blog is currently perceived by readers. A big chunk of the feedback regarding the design and functionality of the site brought up issues that I knew existed but couldn’t really change in my current platform — and so it gave me the final push to do something about them. The first thing I knew I needed to do was move from Blogger to WordPress. After five years, Blogger was just no longer offering me the flexibility I wanted, and I was getting increasingly frustrated by the limitations of the platform. I wanted to be on WordPress, and I wanted a pretty new theme with minimal and smart design.

Since I had about five years’ worth of content at Blogger, not migrating it correctly or losing content along the way was a big concern that kept me from officially taking the necessary steps to get that going. And trying to figure out all of the other technical details was way too overwhelming, so I made the decision to hire someone to do it for me. After lots of careful research, I decided to go with Shay Bocks Design Co. I was initially drawn to Shay for her gorgeous design aesthetic, which is simple, sophisticated, minimal and smart. Although I am not a designer, I know what I like — and knew she could create something gorgeous. Plus, she created the Brunch Pro Genesis Child theme, which I instantly loved when I first saw it. The theme layout and design is simple and minimal … and I love the recipe index design! I’m still marveling at how well it’s put together, and love how easy it is to use. Shay and her team customized this theme, translating and integrating what I wanted for my brand into  the overall design and a gorgeous new logo … and I couldn’t be happier with the results!

I hope you like what you see as much I do, and that the improved functionality will make the site easier and more enjoyable for you to use. Please bear with me as I sort out little formatting issues leftover from Blogger and add in some new WordPress functionality (including recipe cards and print options) in the coming weeks.

If you have any feedback I’d love to hear about it in the new commenting system here. It looks fabulous, I love it! The recipe index is the best, thank you! I know how hard it can be to change up a web page, let alone a completely new site. You did great in your decisions, Erin. Congrats! 🙂

It’s really nice that now we can pin things to Pinterest directly from your site, without going first to your Pinterest page and then scrolling around trying to find the recipe! I want to pin almost everything you post!

I think the new layout is so fantastic! Much brighter, fresher and I love your header.

One small note: the font is a little hard to read on posts. I don’t know if that’s an easy thing to change or not, but thought I’d let you know.

It would be better if the font type and size of the body text be bigger for easier reading. Keep up the good work!

Loving the new look. I loved how you were using bold colors for your blog when most food blogs don’t. I do like having the white background, but isn’t “too white and sparse”

Hi Christine, I recently bumped up the font a point size, so hopefully that will help! 🙂
