If you are looking for a way to add a little zing to your cereal, some pop to your plant-based yogurt or ice cream or just a healthy, and nutrient-dense snack to tide you over to lunch or dinner, these crunchy little gems from Homegrown Organic Farms are the perfect solution!
Let’s start off with the blueberries: these soft but crisp berries are slightly sweet. I ate them plain and stirred them into some plain, plant-based yogurt. It complemented the richness of the yogurt perfectly, adding a hint of tartness that kept me wanting to go back for another bite.
Next up are these freeze-dried grapes! I love how the skin is left on, making them feel simple and wholesome (which they are!) These would be perfect tossed over some unsweetened cereal, sprinkled over a salad for a little sweetness and crunch, or just eaten straight out of the bag.
When I was a kid, I remember eating something called astronaut ice cream, which is freeze-dried ice cream. These freeze-dried apples reminded me of that texture: it starts out crunchy, then kind of melts in your mouth. I loved the variation in size and thickness of the apples, and plowed through the bag in a day it was so good! I’m am not sure what these would complement—I thought they were best just straight out of the bag.
You can check out this newly launched product for yourself either through HGO Farm’s store locator or find them online. Their freeze-drying process allows a shelf life up to 18 months without the use of any preservatives, allowing you to enjoy the fruit regardless of the season or your location.
They are also non-GMO, gluten-free, vegan, wholesome and grown+made in the USA.
Because most of the moisture is removed during the freeze-drying process, be sure to seal it tight in between uses. The product can start to get a little tacky if left out and exposed to the air for an extended period of time.
I’m so happy to have discovered these little gems and love HGO’s mission, reading about their growers and commitment to sustainability. Check them out on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter for news and updates!
